How will we get there?
To meet our 2040 goals of zero emissions from the power we serve customers and net zero emissions across our company, we'll transform every part of our business: from the power we supply to our customers, to the vehicles we drive, to the materials we purchase, to how we operate our buildings.
Along the way, we will continue to keep electricity reliable and affordable. We're confident that, working together with our customers and communities, we will reduce emissions and continue building Oregon's clean energy future.
Let's meet the future together
2040 is right around the corner. We look forward to continuing our partnership with you, our customers and the communities we serve, to meet – and beat – the challenges ahead.
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the power we serve our customers by at least 80% by 2030.¹
We know our customers and communities want to use clean energy, which is why we’re committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the power we supply to customers by at least 80% by 2030. Ending operations at coal plants, like the one we closed in Boardman, Oregon – adding more renewable generating facilities through wind and solar, as well as battery storage, like our new Wheatridge facility, will help us get there.
Zero greenhouse gas emissions from the power we serve to our customers by 2040.
We were excited to be part of a broad coalition supporting the new Oregon law – HB 2021 – requiring zero greenhouse gas emissions from the electricity we serve customers by 2040. Reaching that goal will require technology advancements to fully eliminate emissions from our power supply, and we are working with key industry partners to advance the technologies PGE and other utilities will need to achieve these targets.
Net zero greenhouse gas emissions in our internal operations.
Our company operations goal means finding ways to reduce emissions in every part of our business. And with transportation accounting for 40% of Oregon’s greenhouse gas emissions, one way we’ll make progress is through electrifying more than 60% of our fleet by 2030, including 100% of our Class 1 vehicles like sedans, SUVs, and small pickups, as well as forklifts, by 2025.
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions in your energy choices.
PGE customers are already #1 in the nation in choosing our current renewable energy programs, but we know many customers want to move further, faster. We will continue to create new, innovative programs that offer a variety of choices to customers looking for clean, green energy options to power their homes and businesses.
