But as EVs gain in popularity, one issue that is often raised is “Where can I charge it?” This is especially true for folks without garages or driveways who are usually parking on the street.

We’re amped to partner with cities across our service territory to make EV chargers more accessible for everyone. This year, you’ll see us out in neighborhoods installing charging stations on our utility poles, making it easier for you and your neighbors to go electric.

Cost to charge: $3 for 4 hours*

That’s enough Level 2 charging to get you to work and back and run a few errands in between! *An additional peak-time fee of $0.19 per kWh will be added on during weekdays between 3 and 8 p.m.

Frequently asked questions

Installing EV chargers on poles is a cost-effective way to help make charging accessible to EV drivers. We want to help our customers charge their electric vehicle, no matter where they live.

Charger locations are selected for a number of reasons including proximity to off-street parking, multi-family housing and rentals, the age and height of the pole and the number of EV chargers in the area. However, not all poles are suitable for a charger. Reasons include the pole’s age and height, it’s location in the right-of-way or the transformer may not be able to support the additional power needed for EV charging. Our goal is to make it easier to charge an EV. If there are questions or concerns about a selected pole charger location, please contact PGE at neighborhoodcharging@pgn.com.

Our current pricing is $3 per session (up to 4 hours) and a fee of $0.19/kWh during peak time (3-8PM, Monday thru Friday).

*Session times vary depending on municipality guidelines

Sessions are limited to four hours. We do ask that you move your vehicle as soon as it’s reached the charge limit so other users can utilize the charger. An idle fee for vehicles parked more than four hours may apply.

There are a variety of reason we place the chargers high up on the pole:

  • Follows National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) clearances.

  • The charger’s configuration on the pole allows our linemen to safely climb the pole.

  • The height and location is out of the way of vehicle traffic.
