Hunting at Tucannon

Public access is limited to certain properties, and only with an Access Permission Agreement. View this more focused map to see which landowners allow access within the Tucannon Wind Farm boundary. View this larger, regional map to see which landowners allow access within all three wind farms.

• Hunting areas identified in green on the wind facility maps are open for public access with an Access Permission Agreement, obtained from one of the local stores.

• Some private landowners will consider allowing public access, but an Access Permission Agreement is still required. These areas are marked in yellow, and designated as public access with Access Permission Agreements obtained directly from the landowner.

• Other landowners privately manage access and hunting on their land, and public access is unavailable. You may still see or hear hunting in these areas, marked in orange, but it is private access.

• There is no hunting or other recreational access allowed in areas marked in red.

All hunters and other recreational users must have the following with them at all times:

• A signed Access Permission Agreement. All members of your party must have their own Access Permission Agreement, unless they are children under 16 who are not hunting. Every member of your party over 18 will require picture ID.

• A vehicle tag hanging from every vehicle’s rear-view mirror.

• A brochure for each of the wind facilities you plan to access, which shows the map of participating properties.

You have two options to obtain these documents:

1. You can complete the online application form and designate where you would like to pick up your Access Permission Agreement: The Last Resort Kampstore (Tucannon River, WA area, closed seasonally) or Four Star Supply (Pomeroy, WA).

While online registration simplifies the in-store registration process, you still need to visit the store to sign and pick your Access Permission Agreement and vehicle hang tag. Check with the store for seasonal closures and hours.

2. If you decide not to register online, you can still apply for an Access Permission Agreement in person, at one of the stores: The Last Resort Kampstore, Four Star Supply or Circle K (Dayton, WA).

You also must have a hunting license from the State of Washington.

Signs will be placed in many locations, but the maps are your best guide. The maps and signs include GPS coordinates to help you locate your position.

PGE, Puget Sound Energy and PacifiCorp lease property from landowners, who decide whether hunting and other recreational activities are allowed on their properties within the wind farm boundaries.

At the store, you will need to sign the Access Permission Agreement form. State game officials and local law enforcement also require that hunters show picture identification for persons over 18.

A hanging vehicle tag will be issued at the store and the corresponding number added to your Access Permission Agreement. Each recreational user will receive a copy to keep with him or her while on the properties; a copy will also be kept on file.

The hunting rules are spelled out in the Access Permission Agreement form that you must carry with you while hunting.

1. No hunting during wind turbine construction periods or posted closure periods.

2. No access of any kind within 300 feet (100 yards) of the wind turbines, buildings or substations.

3. No access of any kind within 1,000 feet (333 yards) of the wind turbines from the 3rd Sunday of November through the 3rd Sunday of February due to potential icing conditions.

4. No pointing or shooting of any weapon at a target of any kind with people, wind turbines, overhead power lines, splice boxes, junction boxes, maintenance vehicles, signs, poles, fences, gates, maintenance facilities, or substation in your scope of view. No shooting from vehicles, across roads, or from any maintained portion of wind facility access roads.

5. No vehicle traffic of any kind on Lessor’s property except on county roads unless authorized in writing by Lessor. Driving on wind turbine access roads is not allowed. This includes operation of off-road vehicles (ORVs) or all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).

6. No horses or pack animals are allowed on Lessor’s property unless previously authorized in writing by Lessor.

7. Do not block access gates or entrances.

8. All hunters must abide by Washington State Game Rules and Regulations.

9. All access may be canceled on Lessor’s land whenever it is deemed necessary by Lessors or Lessees.

10. No overnight camping/parking or outdoor fires on Lessors’ property unless previously authorized in writing by Lessor.

11. Hanging vehicle tags must be clearly displayed and visible from outside of the vehicle while accessing Lessor’s property.

12. Your access permission agreement must be carried on you while hunting within the Puget Sound Energy Hopkins Ridge, PacifiCorp Marengo and/or Portland General Electric Tucannon River wind facilities areas.

13. Please remove gut piles to prevent attracting scavenging raptors to the wind farm area.

All hunters, regardless of age, must have their own Access Permission Agreement. Hunters under the age of 16 must have a guardian’s signature on their access agreement, in addition to their own. Access by children under the age of 16 who are not hunting can be listed on the guardian’s Access Permission Agreement.
